Over recent years the former Whittingham Hospital site has been the subject of a number of planning applications for its redevelopment. In 2007 (and then again in 2014) Preston City Council granted outline planning permission for the redevelopment of the site to provide 650 new homes, employment uses, a new sports and social club facility, primary school, extensive public open space and associated infrastructure. Whilst the first phase of that planning permission is being brought forward by Taylor Wimpey, the remainder of the approved masterplan has proved to be unattractive for further phases due to the significant infrastructure costs.
Homes England, the non-departmental Government body who owns the site, is tasked with stimulating an increase in home building in England. Over recent months Homes England’s appointed project team has been undertaking a range of technical studies, market research and design work to feed into a fresh, sustainable and deliverable masterplan for the site’s development.
They are now in a position to share the emerging vision for the site with the local community and will be holding a consultation event on Thursday 12 July 2018 at the Whittingham and Goosnargh Sports and Social Club, Old Whittingham Hospital Grounds, Whittingham, PR3 2JE, between 14:00 and 19:00. A range plans and information will be available to view by the general public, and members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions. There will be an opportunity for people to register their comments either in writing at the event, or via email after the event. A copy of the leaflet that is being issued to the local community about this event is available here.
